Year 13 vs Year 12
24th September 2013
Year 13 5 - 3 Year 12
Denia 2 Lowe
Stokes McKeating
Collins Hughes
Brown
A nice game of contrasting styles. Year 12 kept the ball well and kept touches to a minimum while year 13 attacked directly with pace. Sam Denia opened the scoring after a skillfull dribble and made it 2 shortly after with a cheeky back-heel after springing the offside trap.
Craig Lowe, who had started well, brought the ball in from the left wing to beat his man and finish well to bring it back to 2-1, which is how the first half finished.
Joel Stokes scored early in the second half to make it 3-1 after some close control in the box and a powerful finish. Rory Collins finished well to make it 4-1 before John McKeating brought year 12 back into it with a well taken goal bringing the score to 4-2.
Sam Brown scored soon after with a neat side foot placed onto the inside of the post to leave the keeper with no chance. With the score at 5-2 Dan Abdous pulled off a superhuman save diving backwards at full strecth to tip Jake Connolley's lob over the bar. Look up Grobbelaar's save from Graham Sharpe in the 86 cup final to get an idea of Dan's stop.
Lewis Hughes then received the ball in space 30 yards out to the left of the goal and decided to hit it first time on the volley. The ball sailed into the far corner of the goal bagging the goal of the game and an early contender for goal of the season.
With the score at 5-3 and year 12's confidence riding high it was all to play for but the ball went in the ditch so we stopped a few minutes early.
Man of the match - Craig Lowe. Excelled in 3 different positions, rarely gave the ball away, was unselfish throughout and scored a great goal. Should have had a great assist as well if not for, what must have been an awful bobble to distract Tom Baynes.

A convincing victory for year 13 saw them go 6-0 up after 30 minutes. A brief fightback from the staff was soon ended by McKeating racing on to a poor back-pass to get the only goal of the second half.
